Freewrite Friday #5: Anybody Still Doing These?

Filed under :About Me, Freewrite Friday

What is freewriting?

Freewriting : An informal writing activity that allows one to write “freely” without concern for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and other constraints. No editing is done. Typically, in this exercise, one is directed to write without stopping for a set period of time (usually just a few minutes). Currently, we have chosen five (5) minutes for our Freewrite Friday. The choice of topic is entirely up to you, whatever is in your head at the moment you begin to type. Have at it!

I haven’t done one of these since February and I dunno if anyone is even doing them anymore but I’m gonna… February! Wow. Time flies when you’re eating cheese. Whatever that means. So ever since our move in June I’ve sorta felt like I’ve stepped into an episode of the Twilight Zone, either that or Mayberry. Everyone is so freakin’ nice and friendly here. The guy that we rented a storage shed from hand-delivered a pair of crutches to our door because he knew that my son had shin splints at the time. He just up and offered for us to borrow the crutches with no rush on giving them back. Every where i go in this town there are happy, helpful people. They wave and smile and strike up pleasant conversation… even the police wave and smile! And people actually go for walks after dark! Can you believe it? We took all five kids to the library one day and the librarian told us what a great town this was, and I was thinking ‘Duh-oh… figured that one out already’. She went on to say how the kids were going to love going to school here, that the kids weren’t like kids in any other school they went to, that they were real friendly here and my kids wouldn’t have any trouble at all making many friends. And all be damned! She wasn’t blowing smoke. My kids just started school this last Wednesday and they were utterly shocked by how nice all the other kids were. In fact, my daughter was a bit overwhelmed by it all being a ‘don’t talk to me unless I invite you to’ kind of girl. Kid after kid after kid came up to her and just started chatting away. Poor girl, it freaked her out a bit. And as for my son, this was his first time going back to public school after being home schooled for a few years, and truth be told, I was terrified that his first day would be horrible and he wouldn’t ever want to go back. But not so… He said that more than 20 kids struck up conversations with him on the first day and that he’s already made at least three friends. I’m so freakin’ ecstatic about all of this that I’m thinking about pinching myself, but then I’m afraid i’ll wake up to find it all a dream, so I’m passing on the pinching. Stepford town or not, I love this place!

Times up!

Freewrite Friday #4: Wacky Tobacky?

After I took my daughter to the bus stop this morning, I just had to go back to bed for a bit. Some mornings are like that. I guess I didn’t get much sleep last night. But, I’m thinking that I didn’t get much sleep this morning either because I had a freaky dream. There was this guy with long dark hair and he was in our house rifling through the kitchen cupboards. I think my son invited him in. They seemed to know one another. And then my daughter came into the room, looking curiously at this guy and I just shrugged. The next thing I knew he handed something to my son and then walked into my lliving room and asked if he could use one of our computers. Somebody must have said ‘yes’ because he did. Only, when he sat down at the desk he became someone else, like he split into two people, you know, because now there was one guy at the desk and the first guy standing up scanning all the pictures and whatnot on my walls, and he said, “Oh, I can see all that you have hidden here.” And so I humoured the guy by asking what he saw, as if there really was anythhing hidden. And he takes this painting off of the wall and starts pointing out ‘hidden’ things. And I’m wondering, where the hell did that Star Wars, Darth Vader painting come from? How odd? But still, I just played along. And then there was a knock at the door and the guy walked over as if to answer it, but instead, he removed his top hat and out stepped a really, really tall (leggy) redheaded woman. And I said, “Hum. Neat trick.” And then the guy at the computer got up and said, “They’re coming. We have to get ready.” And the next thing I know, I’m in a different room with the three strangers and they are telling me to ‘get down’ and ‘be quiet’ because one of their agents is about to come through my back door and shoot the bad guy in the other room. BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! …WHAT?! I ran into the other room as cops were filling in throught the back door. I ran to my son who had been sleeping and now he was all wide-eyed and confused. I asked if he was okay and then escorted him out of that room and into the living room. But along the way I couldn’t help but sneak a peek… The cops were taking the body out of the room. It was covered with a white sheet, but there was blood seeping through and I saw the top of the dead guy’s head, just some of his matted hair poking out from the top, and then they carried him out the door. When I got to the living room the three strangers were just slipping out the front door and they winked at us right before they…

Times up! The following is just extra…

Boy. That was weird. Just so you know, I was going to type ‘disappeared’. They just went ‘POOF!’ I don’t know why they bothered to use the door then. There were a few other details to this dream that didn’t make it into this post, mostly because I didn’t remember them at the time I should have typed them, so I just moved along. But I just have to say, there was one point where a cigarette was asked for, and the most unusual ‘peace pipe’ I’ve ever seen was given in its stead. Wacky tobacky?

Um, yeah. It is SO time for a cup of coffee now.

Have a terrific Friday!

I’m tired. I have swollen zombie eyes this morning. I don’t know why because I went to bed at midnight instead of 3 am, which is what time i’ve been going to sleep. My capslock key keeps giving me fits. It’s like there is something stuck underneath it that keeps the key from being pushed all the way down, but every time i pop the key to look, I find nothing. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, which is why most of my ‘i’s’ do not get capitalized. My hubby fell down and broke his crown yesterday, but his name isn’t Jack. Actually, I fib. His name is Jack. Actually, I fib again. His name is Bob and he didn’t actually break his crown. He dislocated and fractured his left shoulder. Ouch! I spent about 4 hours in the ER with him. That’ll teach him to climb on shelves, eh? Poor guy… wait-a-minute! He has Vicodin and muscle relaxants. Lucky guy! I can’t think of anything else to say right now. And guess what, that’s a good thing ‘cuz I’ve got about 3 seconds left to…

MetalMom

I forgot that it was Freewrite Friday, until I saw MetalMom’s comment. So I thought… Jeez! I better write something. I’m trying to get ready to go to St. Louis for the weekend. Meand my kids are going to meet my mother there, then we plan on going to the Science Center, the museum (by the zoo), Union Station, and maybe The Spaghetti Factory. Yum! I love spaghetti! Lalalalalalala… I hate brussel sprouts and my mom always made me eat at least two when she made them for dinner. I couldn’t even pass those nasty things off to my dog ‘cuz he wouldn’t eat them either! I’m supposed to be leaving here in less than two hours and i haven’t even packed yet. I’ve had one cup of coffee though, and fed the dog, so that’s a good start. Oh, and I put in a load of laundry, whcih i just now realized is ready for the dryer. Damn. I have a whole 2 more minutes to type here. I wonder if I’ll find anything interesting at Union Station? I have some fun money to spend. But, my favorite part of the trip is going to be the museum. The first time i went there was with my father about 20 some odd years ago. My mom likes to gamble and she wants to go to the new casino in town. I hate gambling, so I hope she doesn’t want me to go with her. If she does, I think I’ll bring my book and just read while she loses all her money. I might play roulette, ‘cuz I like that game. But, I won’t put more than $20 bucks on…

Outta time.

Have a great weekend, folks!

Freewrite Friday #1

Filed under :About Me, Freewrite Friday

This post is brought to you courtesy of Shelli’s thought bubble via MetalMom’s blog. …If that makes any sense. It’s a fun, little thing called ‘Freewrite Friday’, and since I haven’t done a Fiction Friday posting in eons, I thought I’d give this here idea a try. Besides, anything that involves MetalMom makes me smile. Sometimes I shudder, but it’s fleeting, and generally followed by a hearty chuckle. Anyhoo, to quote my dear friend…

“What is freewriting? Freewriting is writing whatever comes to mind, usually writing for a predetermined amount of time without regard to spelling, grammar, structure, etc. and no editing is done. What!? No grammar, spelling, or structure required? See? THIS is why I shudder.

*heh*

O-Kaaay! Here goes: Freewrite #1

I’m cheating. It’s Thursday morning and i’m wirting…writing my Freewrite Friday. It’s just that I keep having these random thoughts flowing through my head, and I figured now was a good time to write them down. Like, I don’t feel like me lately. I feel like soomeone completely sucked the Stacy out of me. I’m all gone, stuffed in a dark corner without any chocolate. Whatever that means. Were going to move soon, I hope. We had a duplex picked out and then the landlord called to say that since he just put new carpet in the place, he had decided to change his pet policy. We have a small dog. Just two days earlier he had said that dogs were okay. Now this? I really wanted to move into that duplex. It was just perfect. It was within walking distance from my daughter’s school and closer to Bob’s work than we are now. It had room enough for our entire family; all new appliances in the kitchen, new carpeting, a lovely deck off of the kitchen with large trees in the backyard to block our view of the neighbors. It was soothing. I really, really needed that. Downstairs had a large rec room with a fireplace, a nice sized bedroom, and a separate, nice sized laundry/utility room. The rec room had sliding glass doors that opened out on to a patio (beneath the upper deck). So, now I’m bummed because we’re not getting the place. What a jerk to change his policy on us. But he did say that the owner across the street had a duplex for rent with the same, exact layout, and he would talk to him to see if he would rent to us. I’m still bummed. But I drove by the other place today, and it has tress… trees in the back yard too. So. Now we have to wait to find out if we can rent it. I hate waiting to *know* stuff. I wanna know right now, dagnabit! Do you have any idea how many books and DVD’s I have to pack? Yeesh. It’s downright scary.
